How to Prepare for Cook County Ultrasounds

by | Nov 19, 2013 | Health

Cook County Ultrasounds are performed on pregnant women to determine the fetal strength, growth rate, and gestational age of a fetus. They are also used to determine what trimester you are in, when you decide to abort the baby. The procedure is easy to perform and painless as well. Below you will find some tips on how to prepare for Cook County Ultrasounds, whether it is a normal ultra sound or to prepare for an abortion.

There is no need to get undressed for a pregnancy ultrasound in most cases. You will want to wear loose comfortable clothing however, so that it’s easy to pull up your shirt for the ultrasound procedure.

You will want to eat something light before you drink the required 48 to 64 ounces of fluid that will be used to perform the ultrasound. The reason for this is that if your stomach is empty, some of the fluid will go to nourish your body, instead of heading straight to your bladder where it needs to be.

You will want to go to the bathroom right before you drink the required fluids, so that you aren’t already full. Any pregnant woman can tell you that a full bladder is really uncomfortable when you have to wait to empty it for a long period of time.

You don’t want to drink just fruit juice as your fluid of choice. The sugar in it can make your feel sick. Now, you will need to hold your bladder, even if you have to go to the bathroom. If you give in and go to the bathroom, the ultrasound will have to be rescheduled and you will have to go through the entire process again.

The procedure does not hurt in any way, although the gel is a little cold when it is applied. Relax and have the procedure done, then sit back and talk to your doctor about the results. An ultrasound for an abortion is done in pretty much the say way. An ultrasound is a good way to tell many things from the sex of a baby to how far along you are.
